Communities

Plant communities in Florida vary from one part of the state to another. They involve groups of plants that have evolved to live in certain ecosystems. My own plant community is the Pine Flatwoods. and the community I will discuss.

Pine Flatwoods are located in the open wooded areas of Florida, are mostly on higher ground, and contain plants such as slash pine, woody shrubs, palmetto palm groves and other long leaved trees.

This environment has long been used in Florida history as suburbian sprawl. Planting appropriate plant species in these areas allows the ecosystem to remain intact to a degree, and also keeps us from having to overwater, or otherwise coddle a plant that is not native and may not do as well living here.
